About this data
Source: Election Commission of India, statistical reports for the 1983 Andhra Pradesh assembly election (detailed results, list of winners, list of parties). Vote shares are of valid votes, excluding NOTA, as ECI reports them. Turnout here is votes counted (including NOTA) divided by electors, so it runs slightly below ECI's official figure, which also counts rejected votes.
Held before Telangana was split off in June 2014: the 294 seats include the Telangana region, which today is a separate state.
Most of the winners listed as independents were candidates of the Telugu Desam Party, which was formed in 1982 and not yet recognised.
ECI's report lists the biggest group of winners as independents: candidates of parties that were not recognised then are recorded as independents.
