# Licence of `india.json`

`india.json` (36 states and UTs, simplified for display) is a derived work, built by `scripts/prepare-india.js` from:

| Source | Licence | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| DataMeet India community, state boundaries (pre-2019), https://github.com/datameet/maps | CC BY 4.0 | shapes of all states and UTs |
| DataMeet `Country/india-composite.geojson`, https://github.com/datameet/maps/tree/master/Country | CC0 | India's outline (official claim); parts of it no state covered were given to the neighbouring state |
| DataMeet / Survey of India 2011 census districts (`Survey-of-India-Index-Maps/Boundaries/India-Districts-2011Census`) | CC BY-SA 2.5 India / ODbL (as stated by DataMeet) | the Leh and Kargil district lines that separate Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir |
| DataMeet `Country/india-soi.geojson` (dissolved Survey of India 2011 census districts) | CC BY-SA 2.5 India / ODbL (as stated by DataMeet) | only the Aksai Chin north-east corner (~1,288 km2) that the composite lacks |
| DataMeet `Country/disputed/pok-districts-alhasan.geojson` | as DataMeet's Country data (see its README) | splits Azad Kashmir (PoK, assigned to Jammu and Kashmir) from Gilgit-Baltistan (assigned to Ladakh) |

Because share-alike data (district lines) went into the result, `india.json` is offered under the
**Open Database Licence (ODbL 1.0)**, https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/ , and, for the
creative-content side, **CC BY-SA** (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/in/). If you reuse the file,
keep the attributions below and share your derived data under the same terms.

Attribution: "Boundaries: DataMeet India community (https://github.com/datameet/maps), Survey of India 2011 census
districts; simplified by Ballot Atlas."

The shapes were simplified (about 5% of the original points kept) and are for display only. They follow India's
official claim of its boundaries; for authoritative boundaries see the Survey of India (https://surveyofindia.gov.in).
